Park Rangers (Commissioned) participate in operations, law enforcement, resource management, interpretation and maintenance activities at an assigned State park. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Location: Big Bend State Recreation Area is a popular, water-based recreation site located 5 mile south of Laughlin Nevada. Typical activities are boating, jet skiing, fishing and camping. Typical Mojave Desert climate with very hot summers and very mild winters. Position: Park Rangers assist in overall park management and in larger parks are typically responsible for specific areas of management such as fee collection, seasonal employee supervision, visitor center oversight, resource management or Law Enforcement Duties: Nevada State Park Rangers are generalists, typical duties include: clean and maintain park buildings/grounds. Other duties include gathering visitor information/statistics, collecting and accounting for fees, responding to visitor inquiries, preparing reports, and handling correspondence. Incumbents prepare and present interpretive programs, prepare special use agreements and monitor commercial filming and wedding activities. At Big Bend of the Colorado, intensive spring and fall visitation require extended periods of fast paced work. Schedule: Schedule will vary by season. This position will be required to work various hours and shifts including holidays and weekends. Commissioned Position information: As a state park peace officer, incumbents write citations, handle accidents and incidents, resolve disputes, keep peace, respond to emergency situations as required. Law enforcement academy training will be provided. Housing: Housing is provided, in-park residency is required for this position. Advancement Opportunities: Incumbents have the opportunity to progress to a Park Ranger II after one year. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
